City entrance statement
This Consultation has been completed

In its 2018-2019 Budget Council allocated funding towards the enhancement of the eastern entrance to Warrnambool.
This follows through on a commitment in the Council Plan to "develop civic pride and story through development of town entrances".
Four draft designs have been developed with the intention of:
- instilling civic pride within the community;
- creating a sense of arrival;
- reaffirming Warrnambool as a visitor destination; and,
- reaffirming Warrnambool's coastal location and reinforcing Council's vision for Warrnambool to be a "Cosmopolitan City by the Sea".
The vision for Warrnambool to be a Cosmopolitan City by the Sea was chosen by the Council during the development of the 2017-2021 Council Plan. It has subsequently been referenced in Council Budgets and other key documents. The word cosmopolitan was chosen because of its reference to being welcoming and all-inclusive.
Council wants to hear the community's views on these four options. Check out the information and images below and in the survey at the bottom of the page tell us what you think of each design. Consider what you like and don't like about each option and whether they achieve the four aims described above.
Please provide your feedback by November 23, 2018.

This welcomes visitors to the world of a cosmopolitan city by the sea. Four distinct panels illustrate ocean, city, coast and countryside with familiar symbols that can be interpreted at a glance.
Detail in the panels hints at the possibility of discovering new aspects of Warrnambool. The panels would be spaced four metres apart. The sign structure will first be viewed as a whole then, as viewers approach, details on each panel will be revealed.

The largest of the options, this statement ties the region's natural and cosmopolitan identities together with wooden pylons depicted behind the city's skyline cut into a metallic finish.
The spacing and depth of the series of pylons will cause the sign to change in density as viewers approach and pass the sign.

This concept uses abstract motifs to suggest the sea, land and city. The forms use bold colours and repetition to depict layers of adventure waiting to be discovered.
This option will inculde 3D layers in the lettering and abstract forms. The three panels will be spaced four metres apart.

Two sculptural panels set the tone in a unique statement. Features of Warrnambool's built and natural environment have been distilled into two groups of abstract forms. Viewed together the forms and colours suggest rather than illustrate the cosmopolitan city by the sea. Captured in shapes and colours are the ocean, basalt, sandstone, coastal outline, vegetation and land profiles.
