A revegetation policy for Council land
This Consultation has been completed

The Warrnambool region has been subjected to extensive native vegetation removal and modification for a number of years, with less than 10 per cent of native vegetation remaining. Many of these areas of remnant native vegetation provide essential habitat for the region's threatened species.
Warrnambool City Council encourages and supports revegetation on Council managed land. When planned and implemented appropriately, these works can provide a range of environmental and social benefits. However, there are also risks associated with this work such as inappropriate siting and design, plant mortality and maintenance.
To address this issue, the Revegetation Policy (2015) and the Revegetation and Maintenance Guidelines (2015) have been developed.
These documents provide clear direction about the Council’s requirements regarding the planning and implementation of revegetation and rehabilitation activities on Council managed land. This guidance will ensure the provision of consistent and successful revegetation and rehabilitation projects.
The Revegetation Policy aims to:
- Maintain and enhance existing biodiversity values on Council owned and managed land;
- Ensure management practices maximise ecological values within remnant vegetation;
- To maximise the coordination, efficiency and benefits of revegetation plantings; and,
- Ensure revegetation works take place at the most appropriate locations.
The policy does not address plantings for amenity or landscape purposes. Advice on these proposals is provided on a case by case basis by Council’s Parks, Gardens and Environment Team.
The Council is seeking feedback on the draft policy, which is available via the link on the right.
